Union minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Tuesday made a sarcastic comment about Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge for not attending Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day speech at Red Fort.

Alleged Direction from Janpath

Rajeev Chandrasekhar claimed that Kharge may have received directions from Janpath, the government residence of former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi. He believes that the Gandhi family instructed Kharge to refrain from celebrating India and Independence Day as long as they are not in power.

Political Slugfest

Kharge missed the Red Fort event, citing eye-related problems and concerns about not being able to arrive on time due to tight security. However, the BJP criticized him, stating that he immediately recovered from the illness and attended the Independence Day celebration at the Congress headquarters.

BJP’s Response

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla commented on Kharge’s quick recovery and presence at the Congress headquarters, where he gave a speech and hoisted the flag. Poonawalla expressed skepticism about Kharge’s claimed illness that prevented his attendance at the official event.

The absence of Mallikarjun Kharge from the Prime Minister’s Independence Day speech triggered a political controversy, with Rajeev Chandrasekhar mocking him for allegedly receiving directions from the Gandhi family. This incident highlights the ongoing political tensions between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress party.
