Real Madrid could certainly do with another striker at this point in time. Karim Benzema’s departure at the end of last season has left a big hole up top for Los Blancos and they do not have anyone capable of filling it in their squad. Carlo Ancelotti has tried a 4-4-2 formation in pre-season with Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo playing as a duo. But the results have been mixed at best.

Real Madrid have signed Joselu on a loan deal from Espanyol till the end of the season. But that simply is not enough to fill Benzema’s absence.

One of the many strikers that Real Madrid have been linked with in recent months is Rasmus Hojlund. The Danish international is one of the most highly-rated young centre-forwards in the game right now.

Considering Real Madrid’s recent record of signing youngsters, it is not hard to see why they might have their eyes on Hojlund. But the player is going to end up at Manchester United instead.

Real Madrid-linked striker signs for Manchester United

As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Hojlund has signed his five-year contract with an option for a further year as a new Manchester United player. The deal is done and sealed.

Manchester United are believed to be shelling out an €85 million transfer package in order to sign Hojlund. It is hard to imagine that Real Madrid would have gone anywhere close to that figure.

Hojlund is an extremely talented young striker but he is not proven at the top level yet. His numbers for Atalanta were nothing extraordinary last season. Thus, Manchester United are taking a major risk by signing him for that kind of a fee.

On the other hand, it remains to be seen if Real Madrid will sign a striker this summer. The only player they are being linked with right now is Kylian Mbappe.
