Enhanced Gaming Experience: Sony’s Revolutionary PS5 Beta Unveils Dolby Atmos Integration and Expansive 8TB M.2 SSD Storage Capability

Dolby Atmos Support and UI Improvements

Sony has started testing a new PlayStation 5 software beta that includes the following features:

• Dolby Atmos support
• Up to 8TB of M.2 SSD storage support
• UI improvements

Dolby Atmos Support

Sony’s 3D Audio implementation, Tempest 3D AudioTech, will now be compatible with Dolby Atmos devices such as sound bars, TVs, and home theater systems. Even media apps like Netflix will soon support Dolby Atmos audio on PS5.

“Tempest 3D AudioTech specifically renders to the Dolby Atmos audio devices in use – including overhead channels – allowing for even greater levels of immersion in the audioscapes of PS5 games,” explains Sony in a PlayStation blog.

Expanded Storage Support

The beta software increases the maximum expandable storage for PS5 from 4TB to 8TB with the use of M.2 SSD that meets the minimum requirements (mostly 5,500 MB/s or faster).

User Interface Improvements

With this update, Sony introduces several UI improvements:

• Mute the PS5 beep sound that chirps when you turn the console on or off, or when it goes into rest mode.
• Change the beep volume.
• Enable haptic feedback from a DualSense controller while navigating around the PS5 user interface.
• Assign a second controller to one account to use it as an assist controller for assistance in games or navigating the PS5 UI.
• Better social features, including inviting players into a closed party without adding them to a group, and sending open or closed party invites to groups. Additionally, preview someone’s screen before joining a party and emoji reactions for messages.
